Spartan Eats bus serves as mobile classroom
The Spartan Eats Mobile Meals Bus is used as part of the USDA Summer Meals Program, but did you know it is also used as a mobile classroom? During Multicultural Week at Neil Armstrong Elementary School, the Spartan Eats Bus was used for a tasting of traditional Yemen cuisine. Eager students walked through the Mobile Meals Bus to sample hummus, Shafoot dip (a traditional Yemen yogurt dip) and dates with fresh vegetables on the side.
There are no income requirements for USDA Free Summer Meals program and no registration is necessary. Parents/guardians may also purchase a meal to eat with their child. Breakfast is $2 and lunch is $4 for parents/guardians. This year’s program runs from July 8 until Aug. 16 at Gates Chili High School and Paul Road Elementary School. The Spartan Eats bus will make stops at Memorial Park and Lions Park this summer. Specific times for meals at all of these locations will be available in early June.
