Two people hold an award in front of a screen with text about clean energy.Gates Chili Central School District is proud to lead the way in sustainable transportation as the first district in upstate and western New York to add electric school buses (ESBs) to its fleet. These zero-emission vehicles are a reflection of our long-standing commitment to environmental stewardship and a healthier future for our students and community.

In recognition of this leadership, the district received an Achievement Award from Greater Rochester Clean Cities (GRCC) in January 2024. This honor celebrates our efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and advance clean energy transportation. By investing in innovative, eco-friendly solutions, we are setting the standard for school transportation across the region.

A regional and state leader

Gates Chili unveiled its first two fully electric school buses (ESBs) in June 2022 and buses first hit the road in the fall of 2022.

A committment to sustainability

Gates Chili's ESBs are on the road every day and can go approximately 100 miles per charge.

Making history again!

In 2025, GC became the first district statewide to add to its fleet an electric school bus with a wheelchair lift!
